Cambridge Mom Insists That Parents Need to Know
Heather Sheppard, a resident of Cambridge, VT, testified before the March 15, 2005 school board
meeting of the Lamoille Union High School (LUHS) that parents need to be informed about what is
happening in the office of the school nurse. Heather first became alarmed while engaging in a casual
conversation with the nurse supervising an appointment for her young daughter at the Morrisville
office of the Department of Health. The nurse is also a school nurse at LUHS, and she freely revealed,
according to Heather’s written testimony, that “one day there was a girl (unnamed) that came into the
school nurse’s office very upset and thought she was pregnant.” The nurse said, “‘I knew just what to
do, I made a call and, so and so (name unknown) came and got the girl and took her to Planned
Parenthood. And her parents will probably never know……’” Heather went on to testify that the nurse
said “something to the effect of the person taking the girl and bringing her back during the day.”
The conversation left Heather shocked and determined to expose the situation to members of the school
board as well as other area parents.
