Winners of the Pro-Life Vermont Essay Contest

PRESENTING THE WINNERS!
The 2024 Pro-Life Vermont Essay Contest was a great success. Nearly 200 students in grades 6-12 wrote moving submissions about “The Value of a Single Human Life”. Entries came from every one of Vermont’s 14 counties. The essays were heartfelt tributes about the people in their own lives that they value: their siblings, teachers, parents, grandparents, friends, people with disabilities, and more. These essays give us reason for hope and optimism that there will be strong witnesses for life among the next generation of Vermonters!

Vermont Right to Life congratulates these winners:

Grades 11-12 category
* 1st place: Georgia Lucas of Brownington
* 2nd place: Emma of Barre
* 3rd place: Olivia Lucas of Brownington

Grades 9-10 category
* 1st place: Jonathan of Colchester
* 2nd place: Lyla of Plainfield
* 3rd place: Gianna Callan of Waterbury Center

Grades 6-8 category
* 1st place: Nora Schottel of Shelburne
* 2nd place: Alexandria Hanover of Brownington
* 3rd place: Nehemiah of Rutland

In addition, thirteen students received Honorable Mention awards. We have permission to publish ten of these essays. Click here to read them.

There were eight sponsoring schools and churches that submitted at least five entries. A drawing for the Group Prize was held and the prize was awarded to Websterville Christian Academy of Websterville, VT.

Vermont Right to Life Educational Trust will host another essay contest this year. Look for more details soon.

Our Mission

The mission of the Vermont Right to Life Committee is to achieve universal recognition of the sanctity of human life from conception through natural death. In pursuit of that mission, VRLC, through peaceful, legal means, seeks changes in public opinion, public policy, the law, and individual behavior that respect the right to life and reject abortion, euthanasia, and other actions that deny the right to life.

VRLC was originally called “Voice of the Unborn” and first met in 1971.

In 2019, Governor Phil Scott signed a radical abortion law and approved an additional $759,560 in state funding for Planned Parenthood’s abortion business.  As Planned Parenthood was already receiving $800,000 annually in state taxpayer dollars, the total has for the organization now reached $1.4 million.
